A shoe that expands with your foot rather than against it — the Orthofit Stretch Cushion Shoe uses adaptive knit technology and an orthopedic footbed to accommodate swelling, bunions and wide feet without compromise on support or appearance.
- ✔360-degree adaptive knit upper — the seamless knit upper stretches in all directions to accommodate the foot's natural shape changes throughout the day; expands with swelling, bunion protrusions and wide forefeet without creating pressure points
- ✔Bunion-friendly seamless zones — the knit pattern is engineered with zero internal seams at the bunion joint areas; eliminates the friction and pressure that causes the burning, redness and pain associated with conventional shoe uppers
- ✔Orthopedic memory foam footbed — the deep memory foam footbed with arch support and heel cup provides alignment correction and cushioning beneath the adaptive upper; support is not sacrificed in a shoe designed for accommodation
- ✔Easy-entry wide opening — the wide foot opening and elasticated collar allow the shoe to be put on and removed without a shoehorn; essential for people with limited hand or wrist strength, arthritis or back problems that prevent bending
- ✔Anti-slip outsole with rocker profile — the rocker-profiled outsole encourages natural heel-to-toe roll, reducing the effort of each step; beneficial for people with reduced ankle range of motion or stiffness in the toe joints
- ✔Breathable moisture-wicking lining — the internal lining wicks moisture away from the foot throughout the day; important for diabetic feet and swollen feet where moisture buildup causes skin breakdown
- ✔Available in full and half sizes — precise sizing in full and half sizes ensures the orthopedic footbed is correctly proportioned for the foot length; critical for achieving the right support placement across heel, arch and metatarsal
Are these suitable for swollen feet (oedema)?
Yes. The adaptive knit upper is the most important feature for swollen feet — it expands with foot volume changes throughout the day without ever creating the tight bands that conventional shoes impose during afternoon swelling. 97% of customers said they could wear the Orthofit despite swelling that prevented them wearing other shoes. For lymphoedema or severe circulatory oedema, we recommend discussing footwear with your vascular specialist.
Will they fit over bunions?
Yes. The seamless knit construction at the bunion joint area means there is no rigid seam to press against the bunion protrusion. The stretch knit accommodates even significant bunion deformities without creating pressure or redness. 96% of customers with bunions confirmed the Orthofit did not cause any bunion discomfort. The shoe does not correct the bunion, but it completely eliminates the shoe-caused pain component.
Are they suitable for diabetic feet?
Yes. The seamless upper, moisture-wicking lining, rocker outsole and easy-entry design make the Orthofit a strong choice for diabetic foot management. The zero internal seams prevent the skin irritation and ulcer risk associated with conventional shoe seams on sensitive diabetic skin. The moisture-wicking lining reduces the humidity that causes skin breakdown. We recommend discussing all footwear with your diabetic care team.
What is the rocker profile and what does it do?
A rocker sole is curved upward at the toe and heel, so the shoe rolls forward naturally through the gait cycle rather than requiring the foot to flex fully. This reduces the effort required to complete each step and is particularly beneficial for people with limited toe extension (hallux rigidus), ankle stiffness or general gait fatigue. The rocker profile in the Orthofit is gentle rather than extreme, providing benefit without altering the appearance of the shoe significantly.
Can I use my own orthotics inside?
Yes. The memory foam footbed is removable, allowing custom prescription orthotics to be inserted in its place. The shoe construction provides a generous depth allowance for aftermarket orthotics. The wide adaptive upper means there is no loss of upper comfort when switching to a custom insole. Many podiatrists recommend the Orthofit as a suitable host shoe for custom orthotics in patients with complex foot conditions.
